Yoghurts made on the family farm

About Us

Tree House Creamery was launched in August 2007 to help secure the future sustainability of the family dairy farm.  We successfully process delicious quality handmade yoghurt on the farm.

We are based at Trees House Farm in the picturesque hamlet of Brignall, which overlooks Barnard Castle, a historic market town in County Durham.

Trees House Farm has been in the family for 4 generations, it is a mixed farm of dairy, beef, sheep and arable.  We have a 120 cow dairy herd which is a mixture of Holstein Friesians, with the introduction of Swedish Reds to improve the longevity of the herd.

Simon Hare established the yoghurt venture and is helped by his sister, Debs Hare and fiancée, Stevie Coverdale.  Mum is chief fruit picker for the flavours for the yoghurt and Dad keeps on top of the all important daily farm chores.

Simon went on a yoghurt making course at Reaseheath College to learn about the technical side of making yoghurt.

The new creamery is situated in a converted old stone barn next door to the milking parlour, and houses the pasteurisers, cold room, preparation table and equipment.  The on farm facilities are fully approved with all processes involved adhering to strict hygiene conditions.

We have total control of production from start to finish as the yoghurt is made using milk produced by our own cows and all the flavours are handmade on the farm.  The dairy herd is managed to strict farm assurance, animal health and welfare practices providing a source of safe quality milk.

We are building up a number of outlets where our yoghurt can be purchased and we attend our local farmers market (first Saturday of every month) at Barnard Castle.  This gives us the opportunity to sell the yoghurt direct ourselves and catch up with our regular local customers.
